ARCA
ARCA is a scalable housing construction system conceived for Los Angeles with global scalability potential. Leveraging recent policy shifts like SB9 and SB1123, the system transforms low-density residential parcels into viable small-scale multi-family developments while maintaining neighborhood character through gentle densification.
The innovation centers on structural curves and flat-pack transport: components ship flat to reduce logistics costs and emissions, then assemble on-site into curved forms that enhance structural integrity while reducing material use. Using CLT timber panels and modular design, ARCA adapts to diverse lot configurations while integrating LA's historical patio typologies. Operating as developer, ARCA maintains quality control and contextual sensitivity through full oversight from permitting to completion. The proposal won Harvard’s Plimpton Poorvoo Prize and has developed into a real venture led by Andres Lira Vigneaux and team.
